Dennis Helfer (born in Donalda, Alberta) and Elaine Helfer (born in Donalda, Alberta), were his parents. Helfer is of German, English and Swedish descendance. She went to William E. Hay Composite High School situated in Stettler. With her sisters Trena Tammy Tara and Tammy Tara, she resided as a farm worker on the family grain farm. When she was waiting in theater line an scout from a modelling agency observed Helfer.
